Have you ever felt that so called world 'progress' which is represented by - new technology, the better, faster and cheaper ways of doing things, is like a 'runaway train' and you are now an unwilling passenger. The joy ride which has sped you on to an easier way of life....or at least that's what we had been led to believe, is out of control and you feel the panic of a major collision. Is that collision with your personal or business life? Looking at the big picture, is it a world blowout? Here's A Snapshot Of Our Modern Lifestyle -
In our every waking moment we are being sold the benefits of new ways of doing things that are supposed to: give more pleasure; be better value; be faster; bigger; better or time saving. With monotonous predicability, all these benefits are the fabric of the greatest sales pitches ever written and they're guaranteed to work every time, or what do they say?'.....`or your money back'. Watch out folks, nothing's for nothing, there is a price to pay and the 'world' is the banker who dictates the terms and conditions of settlement. In fact, we are already witnessing an imbalance and it's pay back time. It's time to `balance the accounts' and we see it daily at work where the natural elements, personal and business environment is used as the legal tender. So what's the answer?....Just stop trying to `outrun the wind' and get back to basics where your true power lies for a competitive edge. Really look at what you want out of life and your business and don't kid yourself in the department of need verses greed. Indeed, getting back to the basics and simplicity of doing business has given birth to the home based business and the direct mail trend. This has been driven by the need to reduce overheads and generally improve the business owner's life style with the 'KISS' marketing approach. Let's face it, our overheads and staffing problems are seen as excess `luggage' that weigh us down... a weight that is often too heavy to carry and organisations are looking at ways to lighten the load. I pose these questions for you to consider - where do your priorities lie? Are you looking for a 'quick fix' to your economic ailment or do you want sustainable relationships be it personal or business? Do you want time to work on your business rather than in it to help it grow, or even time to just enjoy the fruits of your labour? Or.....do you want a fuel injected coupe, a faster than light computer, not one but two electric roller doors, or the solution to corporate amalgamation without litigation? My guess is you probably want the lot but like a 'kid in a candy store' we can't have it all, at least not in one go. You have to be selective and get back to basics or you'll lose control....we witness this daily where even the slickest acts and biggest organisations fall over. I'm not suggesting that you revert to caveman mentality, but perhaps we get caught up in satisfying our short term needs which bear the greater risks, without considering the long term benefits in our decision making. Being consciously aware of these fundamentals in pursuit of success will help you `stay on track'. A word of advice - be selective on the type of 'baggage' you are prepared to collect. You see, the more you carry, the harder it is to bail out when you find you're on a 'Runaway Train'. |
